Today in our society, the biggest problem we often face is not a lack of options, it’s so many options that we don’t know where to begin. This is true when it comes to finding the best workout videos. There are videos that cover virtually every type of workout you can imagine. Things from martial arts to dancing and everything in between.

Picking the best workout video for you, your fitness level and your overall goals will be a challenge but at the end of the day you must remember that with so many options available, you have all you need to lose weight at home and not have to pay  high gym membership prices.

Here are some things to keep in mind when you’re hunting for those perfect workout videos:

1. Don’t worry about buying more than one video. Having a fairly large collection will allow you to change things up frequently. That has two benefits: it keeps you form getting bored and it allows you to “shock” your muscles and keep them guessing. This will make it harder for your body to reach that dreaded plateau.

2. If you are on an extremely limited budget you may well be able to find a workout show(s) that you like to watch, free videos online or even take a trip to your local public library. Many libraries today offer free DVD and VHS video tapes you can check out.

3. When you are looking at various videos, make sure that you check out the reviews for each video before you buy it. This will give you a good idea of what the workout entails.

For example, I personally don’t like the “dancey” workouts, I prefer weights and / or martial arts and boxing type workouts. Figure out what you like to do and find one or more videos that are centered around that particular type of workout.

Of course, no matter which videos you decide to get, exercise is one part of the equation only. Make sure you eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of water throughout your day, get enough sleep and avoid or at least cut down on the bad things like smoking and drinking.

One other tip I learned from a dear friend of mine who is in the process of losing 100 lbs. Facing the prospect of losing 100 lbs. can be daunting so what she is doing is breaking it down into 10 lb. increments.

So instead of her saying to herself “I have to lose 100 lbs.” and getting overwhelmed, she says “I only have to lose 10 lbs.” She is focusing on smaller, less overwhelming and more achievable goals so she can stay motivated. Try that if you find yourself getting overwhelmed by all the weight you want to lose.
